THE SHORT VERSION

Wegovy injections start at 0.25mg once weekly and step up roughly every 4 weeks to a 2.4mg maintenance dose — about 16 to 20 weeks to get there. The separate oral pill uses its own, different schedule.

Per Wegovy (semaglutide) prescribing information, Novo Nordisk. Not medical advice — follow the schedule your prescriber gives you, which may differ.

Q & A

How long does it take to reach the full Wegovy dose?Q—01 +
About 16 to 20 weeks (roughly 4 to 5 months), following the standard step-up schedule from 0.25mg to the 2.4mg maintenance dose.
What if I miss a Wegovy dose?Q—02 +
If it's been less than 5 days since your missed dose, take it as soon as you remember. If more than 5 days have passed, skip that dose and take your next one on your regular schedule — don't double up.
Can I stay on a lower dose than 2.4mg?Q—03 +
Yes, if 2.4mg isn't well tolerated, your prescriber may keep you at 1.7mg as a maintenance dose instead. This is a decision to make with your prescriber, not on your own.
Is the Wegovy pill dosed the same way?Q—04 +
No. The oral pill follows a separate schedule — 1.5mg, 4mg, 9mg, then 25mg once daily — different from the weekly injection titration.
Can my prescriber slow down the titration schedule?Q—05 +
Yes. If side effects are hard to manage, your prescriber may extend time at a given dose before moving up. This is common and doesn't mean the medication isn't working.
